BYD January sales increase 47 percent year on year

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD sold 42,159 vehicles in January (excluding the sales of buses), soaring 47 percent from a year ago, the automaker said on Thursday. Sales of new energy passenger vehicles skyrocketed 1,082 percent to 7,151 units while traditional fuel-fossil powered vehicles totaled 35,008 units.

Last month, the sales of BYD Qin soared 1,505 percent to 3,339 units while BYD Tang sales surged 292 percent to 1,089 units. With a monthly sales volume of 2,681 units, BYD Song DM continued to be a leader in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. As a leader in new energy vehicle (NEV) segment, BYD has claimed the championship in sales in global NEV market for 3 consecutive years. Last month, its 300,000th NEV rolled off production line.   

In January, the sales of BYD traditional, oil-powered vehicles grew 25 percent year on year. The respective sales of sedan, SUV and MPV were 12,354 units, 7,586 units and 15,068 units. Out of the total sales, the Song Max sales reached 15,068 units and the model’s cumulative sales exceeded 75,000 units.

This year, BYD aims to sell 200,000 NEVs, surging nearly 76 percent compared with the sales of last year. Even though BYD managed to achieve a sales growth of 47%, it just completed 3.7 percent of its annual sales target.
