Shanghai (Gasgoo)- It is reported that China's intelligent vehicle and smart transportation (Beijing and Hebei) demonstration area in Haidian District of Beijing (hereinafter as Haidian base) has already started operation. This is Beijing's first closed area for autonomous vehicle tests.
Some enterprises, such as BAIC BJEV, Foton Motor, Baidu, HiRain Technologies and Holomatic, have conducted vehicle tests in the Haidian base. Besides, Beijing traffic management department will release the first batch of roads applied for autonomous vehicle tests.
Among the above enterprises, BAIC BJEV showcased its autonomous vehicle LITE at the launching ceremony of the Haidian base. Yang Zifa, president of BAIC BJEV Engineering Institute revealed that LITE will run on roads at 2018 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.
The closed testing area in Haiding District, covering an area of around 200 mu (around 133 thousand square meters), is jointly built by Beijing Innovation Center for Mobility Intelligent (BICMI) and Haidian Driving School. This is China's first closed area designed for the test and evaluation of autonomous vehicles.
The Haidian base contains hundreds of static and dynamic traffic scenarios of urban and rural roads. Meanwhile, the base equips with internet and communication facilities which can be used for research and test of connected vehicles.
It is noteworthy that Beijing traffic management department regulates that the testing driver should undertake relevant legal liabilities if any accident or unlawful act happened during vehicle tests.
Currently, China's first connected vehicle testing road has been built in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area.
Reportedly, the project of another closed autonomous testing area in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area has been under construction. The new testing area, covering around 650mu (around 433 thousand square meters), is equipped with more plentiful scenarios, such as highway, mountain road, rural road, railway and tunnel, etc., which is expected to be completed in June this year.
